The Wall

Here is another secular song that has many spiritual meanings. These are my interpretations…it has been interpreted many times and the author has stated he was always a religious man and some of the group professed to be Christians. My interpretation will be in parentheses following each phrase.

I’m woven in a fantasy,

I can’t believe the things I see

The path that I have chosen now has led me to a wall

And with each passing day I feel a little more like something dear was lost

(Temptation followed and now I have a wall separating me and the peace I once had)

It rises now before me,

A dark and silent barrier between,

All I am, and all that I would ever want to be

It’s just a travesty,

Towering, marking off the boundaries my spirit would erase

(In a spiritual sense I am now cut off from the lover of my soul, and my spirit longs to erase it and return)

To pass beyond is what I seek,

I fear that I may be too weak

And those are few who’ve seen it through to glimpse the other side,

The promised land is waiting like a maiden that is soon to be a bride

(I desire to make it right with God, there are some that have correctly returned to God. I know there is a promise if I can return before the bridegroom comes)

The moment is a masterpiece,

The weight of indecision’s in the air

Standing there,

The symbol and the sum of all that’s me

It’s just a travesty,

Towering, blocking out the light and blinding me

I want to see

(Here I am at the wall and the moment of decision to repent and I know I must turnover all of me. But I battle to decide because I love the life…but my spirit wants to be free)

Gold and diamonds cast a spell,

It’s not for me, I know it well

The riches that I seek are waiting on the other side

There’s more than I can measure in the treasures of the love that I can find

(The love of riches are binding and I know that is not what I want because riches in heaven are far greater and the love I feel from God is the greatest)

And though it’s always been with me,

I must tear down the wall and let it be

All I am, and all that I was ever meant to be,

In harmony

Shining true and smiling back at all who wait to cross

There is no loss

(This sinful man has always been with, I must break that man down and let him be, allowing Christ to bring harmony back to my spirit. To find salvation it really is no loss)

My statement:

What a powerful song of knowing God, running from God, and ultimately repenting and returning to God. If there are barriers in our lives, let us ask God to break them down and make us what he wants us to be.
