Sufficient

I woke this morning with this verse going through my head…

“Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.” Matthew‬ ‭6:34‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The verse I shared in an earlier post comes from a few verses prior to this one.

Sufficient – Merriam-Webster says…

1. a : enough to meet the needs of a situation or a proposed end sufficient provisions for a month

b : being a sufficient condition

2. archaic : qualified, competent

Hmm…why this verse in my head? Today’s issues are big enough I don’t need to think about tomorrow. Be content with today and work through it’s problems. I like the last thought, as Paul wrote…

“Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.” Philippians‬ ‭4:11‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Or as the NLT version has it…

“Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have.” Philippians‬ ‭4:11‬ ‭NLT‬‬

So be happy and content. Ok, but what about the worry or concern side of today? The earlier verse I shared speaks to that; don’t worry about what you have to eat or drink, if God takes care of birds and the grass in a field, surely He will take care of us!

Besides, thoughts bouncing around in my head like this draw me to another passage of Paul’s…

“Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” 2 Corinthians‬ ‭12:9-10‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Yes, he is speaking about the thorn in his flesh that he asked God to take away and each time he asked this was God’s reply. Today’s troubles and issues are today’s thorns…I must hold my head high and remember His grace is enough for me, He will help me through it.

Oh God, thank you for your provision and strength given to us to help us get through storms and troubles in our lives. Remind us oh Lord, that you are Jehovah Jira and all that we do is because of you. We are really self-centered if we think our achievements have been attained without you, so may we boast in our realization of you and your goodness. Bless your name oh Lord. Amen.
