To work out a concession between parties with a mutually agreed upon outcome.
Compromise is a way of life. Often to get something we have to give something. We may compromise on where we go to eat, the direction we are going to travel, or when a child is supposed to return home from a friends house. There are other things that force us to compromise but the list would be huge.
However, we mustn’t compromise when it comes to our integrity or christian walk. To compromise our integrity is to lose a part of our very character. Others who know us and our integrity may not think highly of us if we concede a part of our integrity to achieve an end. Also, we cannot compromise when it comes to sin or as some might say wink at sin. There is an old adage that says, “sin is sin no matter who it’s in.” This is so true, a person’s past performance of a holy life does not keep that person from acting in a sinful way if they compromise their convictions.
In Hebrews we find what happens if we compromise, “Dear friends, if we deliberately continue sinning after we have received knowledge of the truth, there is no longer any sacrifice that will cover these sins.” Hebrews 10:26 NLT. So we should make every attempt to live and remain holy and separate from the world in our walk. We cannot falter or lower our standards to fit in, make an impression, or take a shortcut. Instead let us be persons of integrity who show no compromise in spiritual matters.
