Trust

Definition and examples.

1 a : assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something

b : one in which confidence is placed

My hope and faith is in God and my Savior. Nothing is impossible with God and I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. My Savior has promised to never leave me or forsake me since the Spirit has come into my life at salvation.

2 a : dependence on something future or contingent : hope

b : reliance on future payment for property (such as merchandise) delivered : credit bought furniture on trust

The Lord says in John 14 that He is going to prepare a place for us who believe. He also says He will return to take those who believe there one day (our blessed hope). Of course this is dependent upon my continuing in faith and pursuing the high calling of holiness. We will be welcome on that day because of the price paid at Calvary.

3 a : a property interest held by one person for the benefit of another

b : a combination of firms or corporations formed by a legal agreement; especially : one that reduces or threatens to reduce competition

My mansion just over the hilltop was purchased and created by my Lord. Currently it sits empty but is cared for by the lover of my soul. He is holding it there for me awaiting my arrival. Hallelujah!

4 a : care, custody the child committed to her trust

b (1) : a charge or duty imposed in faith or confidence or as a condition of some relationship (2) : something committed or entrusted to one to be used or cared for in the interest of another

c : responsible charge or office

I am a child of the King and am currently in the care of the Spirit living within me. He directs me and guides me on this road to holiness. The Spirit is in charge of my state and comforting me through the storms of life that occur.

Trust is an interesting word. I trust that you agree….

In God we trust is a phrase that has been applied in the history of our country. Thinking through the definitions above and the little examples I added, I can see how that phrase applies. However we must think of our trust in Him as a personal thing not a national thing. If we who believe can apply total and unwavering trust in God and follow the Spirit’s lead in our lives this country can return to a more righteous way of living. Let us therefore pursue His plan and dedicate ourselves in the next year to the Spirit’s direction no matter how uncomfortable or fearful the pursuit may be.
