From Merriam Webster…
1 a : blitzkrieg
b (1) : an intensive aerial military campaign
(2) : air raid
We are in a spiritual battle all of the time with temptations bombarding our position. We must be vigilant to build up our weaknesses through prayer and the word of God. Having an accountability partner to stand in the trench with us and supporting us also assists us in fortifying our position.
2 a : a fast intensive nonmilitary campaign or attack an advertising blitz
This is an offensive blitz and one in which we should be actively involved. As lights to the world we should be marketing the gospel to the lost and dying world…not with glitzy fanfare but with wholesome truth. This world looks for truth and finds little so it makes it up. Christ is the missing piece in the lives of many and they try to fill that void with all kinds of things, but truly Jesus is the answer.
b : a rush of the passer by a defensive linebacker, back, or end in football
The sport I love! One could look at this on either side of the ball. As Christians we must blitz our opponent in hopes of him losing his grasp on the souls of others and those souls coming to the Lord. If we look at our Christian life as the offensive side of the ball, we must be able to read the enemies blitz and be ready with the full armor of God to block it thus allowing us the time to succeed in our efforts of advancing God’s football towards the ultimate goal of winning the lost and achieving our prize.
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:7-8 KJV
3 : an occurrence in which large numbers of fish gather to chase and feed on prey or bait
Wow, this reminds me of the following writing in 1 Peter:
“Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.” 1 Peter 5:8 NLT
I think of Satan and his horde swarming around us and our Christian brothers trying to eat us up. We must stand strong and firm with our brothers in prayer and supplication. An image from the movie Gladiator comes to mind…the scene is in the arena and the chariots are coming in to attack the gladiators, all of the gladiators who survive the attack first join together side by side with their shields right beside each other and angled over the top. This barrier protected all of them, we must interlock our walk with our brothers in much the same way to strengthen ourselves against the onslaught of our enemy.
