I came across a video of a little girl finally being adopted by her step-father. On the day that the man married her mother she asked him to adopt her. Time went by and finally everything was approved and he adopted her. She broke down and cried for joy on his shoulder as he hugged her.
In the video the man read her a letter he wrote that spoke to how their relationship had grown as he dated her mother and how he had actually become like a father to her. She came to him when she needed the protection and presence of a man. He helped her with homework and walked through the store holding her hand.
Then I thought about my adoption into the family of God. Tears come to my eyes as I think about the joy I have in Him. I didn’t have to build a relationship with Him though to ask to be adopted. It was His desire and plan to adopt me and then build a relationship with me. He leads and directs, comforts and soothes, and showers me with blessings (known and unknown). He is my all-in-all and I am so happy that He won my heart. The adage of, “there but by the grace of God go I”, I believe and hold as true; I am sure that God has kept me and keeps me from all kinds of ills.
“Yet now he has reconciled you to himself through the death of Christ in his physical body. As a result, he has brought you into his own presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault.” Colossians 1:22 NLT
“Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NLT
“And we believers also groan, even though we have the Holy Spirit within us as a foretaste of future glory, for we long for our bodies to be released from sin and suffering. We, too, wait with eager hope for the day when God will give us our full rights as his adopted children, including the new bodies he has promised us.” Romans 8:23 NLT
As a reconciled, redeemed, and adopted child of God I have so much joy for all that he has done, is doing, and will do through and for me. Praise be to God for His great love to all of us.
